952 Harley-Davidson Model 125 “Hummer” with Tele-Glide Fork From the private collection of Patty Bush, former owner of Doc’s Harley-Davidson. This little Harley has an unusual backstory. The Model 125 was based on the German DKW RT 125, whose design went to the Allies as war reparations after World War II. Harley-Davidson built it in Milwaukee starting in 1948, and the two-stroke single made about three horsepower, which was enough to put a lot of first-time riders on a Harley. The Tele-Glide telescopic fork seen here replaced the earlier rubber-band front suspension in 1951, so a 1952 model is among the last of the Model 125. The “Hummer” name came later, in 1955, from Omaha dealer Dean Hummer, who sold so many of these lightweights that the nickname stuck for the whole family of small Harleys. For collectors, this is a chance to own the small-bore beginning of Harley’s lightweight line, in the color and form it had at the end of the Model 125 run. Harley-Davidson lightweight motorcycle equipped with a single-cylinder air-cooled engine, sprung solo saddle, and red painted fuel tank and fenders with a Tele-Glide front fork assembly. Markings include Harley-Davidson Made in U.S.A. on the tank, Tele-Glide script, a speedometer registering 02208.5 miles, and stamped casting mark 2964S2.
